Promoted to Glory: Major David Jones

Major David Jones was Promoted to Glory Sept. 29, 2020, in Greenville, South Carolina, surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held Oct. 24 at the Greenville Kroc Center chapel. Major Al Smith will bring the message.

David Daniel Jones was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Kinston, North Carolina, to David D. Jones, Sr., and Acree Jones. After his graduation from high school in 1954, he entered Salvation Army officer training in Atlanta, Georgia.

He was commissioned with the Soul Winners Session of 1955 and on Jan. 18, 1960, married Jeanette Lane. They served faithfully together across the Southern Territory. He was the recipient of the Rotary Club's Paul Harris Award and was inducted as a Kentucky Colonel during his time in the Kentucky-Tennessee Division. The Joneses retired July 1, 2001, after 46 years of officer service and made their home in Greenville.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, survivors include daughters Chana Jones (Mike) Fletcher and Kellie Jones (Shawn) Teeters, sister Jackie Albritton, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
