Promoted to Glory: Major Adeline Sutton

Major Adeline Sutton of Winston Salem, N.C. was promoted to glory on October 15, 2021.

Major Sutton was born on June 2, 1937, in Middletown, Connecticut to William & Nora Paplau. Adeline was very active in the Orlando Corps where she entered training from in 1958. She was commissioned in the Disciples of Christ session of cadets, and she married Ed Sutton on Dec. 24, 1958.

Together they served in Nashville, Memphis, Bristol, Knoxville, Nashville, Tennessee, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem until retirement in Aug. 1993. Majors Sutton served actively for over 30 years and still served faithfully until called to their eternal home.

Major Adeline Sutton was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Major Ed Sutton. She is survived by her four children Janet (David) Morris, Mike (Melissa) Sutton, Carol Sutton, and Steve Sutton. She also has four beloved grandchildren Rachel (Michael) Askew, Ryan (Victoria) Morris, Matt Sutton, and Emily Sutton, and one great grandchild Charlotte Askew.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church (134 South Peace Haven Rd.) in Winston-Salem, N.C., with the family receiving friends at 10:00 am ET. The service will begin at 11:00 am ET and it will be streaming online at calvarynow.com.
