FL Divisional Band Joins Caribbean Territory in Celebrating 130 Years of Ministry in Jamaica

The Florida Divisional Band traveled to Kingston, Jamaica for a six-day ministry trip to celebrate 130 years of Salvation Army ministry in Eastern Jamaica.

“The band was blessed to be able to take part in five days of celebration with the Caribbean territory,” Divisional Music Director Tom Hanton said. While there, band members spent their limited free time exploring and experiencing Jamaican culture.

The band began their week by providing music for the advisory board where they heard a message from the Commissioner of Police of Kingston. They also held programs at two schools, participated in an open air and in evening meetings where they featured a brand new piece of music from the pen of James Cheyne entitled “For His Service”.

The band finished the weekend with performances at the historical Emancipation Park and a march to worship on Sunday followed by a music festival on Sunday afternoon where they were joined by members of the Caribbean Territorial Band.

Hanton said “it was a wonderful experience both musically and spiritually!”
