AOK Women Celebrate Rainy Retreat

Over 260 women from the Arkansas-Oklahoma Division attended the annual women's retreat at Camp Heart O'Hills recently with the theme of standing, dancing and singing in the rain, which ironically, coincided with rainy weather. Guest speaker Rochelle Frazier-Foster, author and illustrator of the Sweeteas Children's Series, gave her powerful testimony on Friday evening and led the two Saturday morning sessions. Colonel Heidi Bailey, territorial women's ministries secretary, was the special guest. She brought the Sunday morning message as well as love and support for the women throughout the weekend.

The piéce de résistance occurred on Saturday evening with a performance by Ballet Magnificat! World Premiere Christian Dance Company. Founded in 1986, Magnificat is Latin for "to magnify Him." The Saturday evening and Sunday morning performances were full of promise for believers.

This year's Spotlight on Women included Carolyn Mendoza, Springdale, Arkansas; Jackie Holmes, El Dorado, Arkansas; Sharon Stringer, Fort Smith, Arkansas; Claudia Terrill, Norman, Oklahoma; Vicki Gunter, North Little Rock, Arkansas; Ginny Robison, Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Carrie Overton, Chickasha, Oklahoma; and Reyna Darden, Hot Springs, Arkansas. On Sunday morning, Chelsea Gallant, Oklahoma City Citadel, was named the 2016 Woman of the Year.

Breakout sessions were varied, including crafts, prayer stations and fitness-related topics. During free time women could visit the country store, play volleyball, color, play games and watch a movie, "Singing in the Rain."

The A-OK Division's praise and worship team led worship, and as in years' past, each corps brought a basket for the silent and live auctions. Money raised supports the Chihuahua and Veracruz Children's Homes in Mexico.
