“I waited patiently for the Lord and He inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. Many shall see it and fear and trust in the Lord.”
~ Psalm 40:1-3
The Salvation Army operates Adult Rehabilitation Centers (‘ARC’) across the United States. These residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers help participants attain sobriety, life and job skills, and a strong spiritual foundation.
At an ARC in Alexandria, Virginia there is a group of men called “The Solid Rock Club.” The club is comprised of 25 individuals striving to be solid in their relationships with God, in their personal growth, and in their outreach to the community.
In just the last few months the group has provided the following to persons in need:
$240 to the Haiti Corps rebuilding fund
$20 a month to sponsor a little boy in Kenya Africa
6 Thanksgiving food baskets for needy families
6 Christmas food baskets for needy families
Non slip socks for an entire nursing home
$904 as volunteer Bell Ringers
Hundreds of dollars for social service assistance
$20 for the Japan Tsunami disaster
The most incredible part of this good work is that the average man in the group makes between $10 and $25 a week!
These men give without an expectation of recognition and without concern for the self. Instead, they seek to follow the example of Jesus Christ.
So, the next time you make a donation to your local Salvation Army, rest assured knowing that you are supporting programs like the ARC and people like The Solid Rock Club!
