Augusta, GA – Give a car and get a free membership to The Salvation Army Kroc Center of Augusta.
The exchange is a new offer from the organization intended to inspire more donations for its February auto auction.
Donations to The Salvation Army’s quarterly auctions have continuously decreased. So far, 43 vehicles have been donated to the auction, which benefits substance abuse programs at The Salvation Army. At the same time in 2012, 69 vehicles had been collected for auction. In 2012, 147 vehicles were auctioned, 40 less than in 2011.
The main reason for the decrease is the growth of the used car market in a slumping economy, Capt. Tony Perez, administrator of The Salvation Army of Augusta, said in an e-mail.
“People are also driving their cars longer,” Perez said.
Competing auto auctions have begun in the Augusta area in recent years, he said.
Every person who donates a vehicle to the Feb. 2 auction will receive athree-month, individual gold membership to the Kroc Center.
