Dear Friends
The Salvationist Service Corps, a six week mission experience for young adults throughout the Southern territory, is comprised of eighteen young adults this summer who are now serving in Brazil, Kenya and Sri Lanka. Today I would like to solicit your prayers for the teams while they are away. You will see the names of each of the team members as well as which division he/she represents below. I am also including a few of the highlights of what each team will be doing this summer.
Please join the Territorial Youth Department in praying for these young people throughout the summer.
If you would like any additional information regarding the SSC, you can keep up with them on-line through a Facebook group called SSC 2011 Teams http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_222438457775612&ap=1 . You can copy and past that link into your url and get to their page. They will also be hosting the July 27th Family Time here at THQ. We hope you can join us for that day.
Here are the teams:
Brazil
Team Members: Chris Hofer, leader, GA
Jill Peddle, leader, MWV
Michelo Milfort, FL
Alyssa Haygood, GA
Megan Menges, FL
Seryeung Lee, GA
The Brazil team will be spending their time in three locations – Vila dos Pescadores, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In the Villa dos Pescadores they will be doing outreach and supporting the local work. This is a poor area and The Salvation Army there has just bought a building where many repairs were needed. The team will be helping with some of those repairs as well as building relationships with the people in the community. In Sao Paolo the team will be focusing on furthering the work The Salvation Army is doing in the local community. In one area they will be ministering to teens from lower income families and teaching the Bible. In Rio de Janeiro, the team will be working in an area where there is a large population of homeless men and women who are caught in sex trafficking. Please be in prayer for this team as they step outside of their comfort zone and trust God to use them for His glory.
Kenya
Team Members: Booth Jewett, leader, FL
Meagan Davis, NSC
Morgan Irish, ALM
Grace Williams, AOK
Wendy Collado, FL
Jerry Stickney, FL
The Kenya team’s ability to preach, teach and minister in Jesus’ name will be stretched this summer as this team will spend a lot of time doing open airs (evangelistic meetings that happen outside) as well as doing Bible studies, visitations and preaching. This team will also be leading youth seminars. The Salvation Army in Kenya is one of the largest Army territories in the world. The Kenya team will have a chance to experience The Salvation Army’s exponential growth there first hand. Please pray that this team learns how to worship their Creator anew and to know Him in a deeper and in a more dependant way.
Sri Lanka
Team Members: Gessica Chadic, leader, NSC
Jay Sikes, leader, NSC
Nathan Israel, TX
Courtney Riley, ALM
Kelly Hall, AOK
Sabrina Restrepo, FL
Sri Lanka is primarily a Buddhist country. Christianity makes up 7% of the population. This team will spend the majority of their summer encouraging fellow believers and supporting the work of the Army there. The team will be teaching leadership workshops, visiting those who live in shanty towns and poor villages, building a Sunday School hut, holding Vacation Bible Schools and they will be participating in a Community Capacity Development Project. As you pray, please ask the Father to bring wisdom to this team as they minister in His name. Also, please ask that He would expand their vision regarding His mandate to go into ALL nations and preach the word.
The Salvationist Service Corps members this year are strong and ready to be used by God to do His will. They are going to represent The Salvation Army Southern Territory in beautiful ways. They will be blessed to know that many of you are covering them in prayer. Thank you in advance. If there is anyone you believe would like this information, feel free to pass it on. If there are any questions I can answer, feel free to be in touch.
If you ever get the opportunity, posting a one to two sentence prayer on their Facebook page would be a wonderful way to let them know we’re thinking about them and praying for them.
Blessings!
Joy Mikles
