Friday, December 9 is Realtor Ring Day! Participating Realtor groups in 11 states will take part in the 2nd annual event which brings real estate agents out from their soon-to-be-sold-homes and into the streets to ring bells at Salvation Army red kettle locations.
You’re probably asking, “Why Realtors specifically?”
The idea, which began last year in Minnesota and North Dakota, came from a real estate agent in Fargo, ND who sought to provide a volunteer opportunity for real estate professionals that related to what they know best: housing. The Salvation Army was an obvious choice. The Housing and Homeless Services programs offered by Salvation Army locations nationwide shelter thousands of people in need each night. We’re honored to be the chosen organization.
In last year’s inaugural Realtor Day, real estate agents in Minnesota and North Dakota raised $25,000 in kettle donations!
This year, 11 states have signed up to participate in the event: Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Real estate agents- a tip for your time: if ringing the bell for your community members in need isn’t enough to warm your heart, a good pair of gloves and a strong cup of coffee will certainly help.

Within The Salvation Army’s group homes, emergency shelters, and transitional living centers, residents are provided with food and lodging. They are also provided with educational, counseling and vocational services to destitute individuals and families for extended periods. While it’s ultimately up to the specific Salvation Army unit, many locations offer family service programs to help families and need individuals with emergency good, housing, utility assistance and other temporal needs.
