GULFPORT — The Salvation Army will open a new Family Store in Gulfport Dec. 15.
This new store at 615 Pass Road at Hewes Avenue replaces the Gulfport location on 22nd Avenue that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. Lucedale has the only other Family Store in South Mississippi, said Meghan Wester, public relations director for The Salvation Army Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The ribbon will be cut at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 and the grand opening celebration in Gulfport will continue until 2 p.m. with special prices, refreshments, face painting and other activities.
Webster said the new store has 13,000 square feet plus another 11,000 square feet of warehouse space. Along with clothing and shoes for men, women and children, the store will sell furniture, appliances, housewares, sports equipment and other merchandise.
“Anything that anybody would need you can find in a Salvation Army Family Store,” she said.
Webster said donations are coming in for the new store as people do their fall cleaning.
“Starting Nov. 12 people can take their donations directly to the store,” she said.
Donations can also be dropped off at the trailer at The Salvation Army’s Kroc Center, 575 Division St., Biloxi and at The Salvation Army center at 3217 Nathan Hale Ave., Pascagoula. Those who have large items should call 497-0169 for pickup.
Proceeds from the store will support the work of The Salvation Army on the Mississippi Coast.
