On Saturday, February 23rd dancers, daredevils, and a crocodile in a helicopter kicked off the grand opening of the Memphis, Tennessee Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. That’s right, RJ Kroc arrived in a helicopter!
The latest of 27 Kroc Centers in the United States, the 100,000 square foot facility features NBA-quality basketball courts, soccer fields, a pool and water park, a fitness center and dance studio, art rooms, a 300 seat performing arts theater and chapel, a professional kitchen, and much, much more. Through education, recreation, artistic instruction, and spiritual direction the Memphis Kroc Center has secured its place among the brightest of lights in a diverse and vibrant cityscape.
Volunteers and staff guided children and families through a state of the art recreation center while acrobatic daredevils put on a slam dunk show on the basketball courts. Medical professionals offered free health screenings outside of the center’s excercise room. Children played in the pool taking full advantage of the two story slide, water cannons and lazy river. Musicians and dancers took center stage in the theater enthralling the audience with their creativity and technical skill. Individuals and families from all walks of life shared in the festivities. And, perhaps most importantly, strangers became friends.
Thank you to all those who worked so tirelessly to bring this vision to life. Your legacy of love will comfort, educate, unify and inspire children and adults for generations.
