The team was hosted by Major Lamours, the Southern District officer with oversight for the children’s home.
There are 35 children presently in residence at Bethany’s. Most have families who cannot afford their daily care. Some are without family and two current residents were found wandering the streets after the 2010 earthquake. They were taken to Bethany’s where they are doing well.
The team visited the nearby Salvation Army school and assisted with morning devotions. Over 300 children attend that school. From there the group would help with work projects of painting the playground equipment and exterior of the dormitory buildings. After the children’s study time was completed the group spent a lot of time playing with the kids. Crafts, coloring, jump rope and soccer were all going on at once. The children were especially intrigued seeing their pictures on phones and iPad’s of the mission team members.
Each night, the children were gathered together for devotions. One of the children will lead the night’s devotion, having prepared it in advance, including songs and using other children to pray. Mrs. Lamour has a schedule made and all were well prepared. Their singing was always a delight to hear.
It’s important to remember through Overseas Sponsorship each individual child can bey sponsored for $20.00 a month. This is vital to ensure the proper care for the children. In addition, a $20.00 monthly sponsorship can be made for the Children’s home. This will help provide their basic needs such as cooking for the children, washing their clothes, maintaining the facility.
Our hearts were touched by the servant hearts of the Lamour’s and to see the Army’s work to reach people with God’s love.
